Archive Page Template | Jolie

This theme comes with a custom Archive Page Template which is widgetized.

You can place category, archive and search widgets at the top of the archive to create a search center.

Post widgets can be added to the page to create a Category or Categories Archive page.

You can create 1 or unlimited Archives. We will cover both processes.

*Make sure you have installed and activated the Recommended plugin Recent Posts Widget Extended. It is required to create this page.

** If you want "See All" buttons on your page, make sure the recommended plugin Shortcodes Ultimate is installed and activated.

Step 1: Create the Archive page

  1. Create a new page in WordPress. See more here.
  2. In the page editor, under the Page Attributes section, under Template, select either the Archive Page or Archive w/Sidebar template option.
  3. Click the Publish or Update button to save your page.

Step 2: Add Top Widgets

1. On the Dashboard, go to the Appereance > Widgets page.

2. Find the Archive Page Top widget area.

3. Drag and drop the following widgets into the widget area:

  • Categories
  • Archives
  • Search

These can be in any order you prefer.

4. Give your widget titles.

5. For the Category and Archive widgets, choose the Display as dropdown option.archive2.png

6. Click the Save button to save the settings for each widget.

Your top area widgets will now be set and display on ALL Archive pages.

 

Set up a Single (1) Archive Page

This is the simplest way to create an Archive page but you will only be able to have a single page this way. Skip to the section below if you want multiple Archive style pages.

Step 1: Add the Posts Widget

1. Go to the Appearance > Widgets page in the Dashboard.

2. Find the Archive Page Main widget area.archive4.png

3. Drag-and-drop the Recent Posts Extended widget from the left into the widget area.archive5.png

4. Configure the widget settings as seen below. The Featured Image size can be flexible by make sure it is at least 500px wide.

You can also choose to display certain categories or tags only. Explore the other options to find out what this widget can do.

5. Save the widget settings.

Step 2: Add a See All button

This step is optional.

1. In the Appearance > Widgets page, drag and drop the Shortcodes Ultimate widget into the Archive Page Main widget area.

2. Remove the widget title.

3. Click the Insert Shortcode button.

4. From the menu, click on the Button link. An interface will open.

5. Add your button Link, choose whether to open in a new tab or current tab. Set your button background color, text color and size. Explore the other setting options like adding an icon. Finally, add your Content which is the button text wording.

6. Click the Insert Shortcode button to add your button.archive10.png

7. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

You can repeat steps 1 and 2 to create more category sections.

 

Create More Than One (1) Archive Page

It is possible to create unlimited Archive Pages.

* To do this, you will need to install and activate the Page Builder by SiteOrigin plugin.

** Setup your Archive Top Area as seen above.

Step 1: Add Posts Widget

1. Open your Archive Page in the page editor.

2. With the Page Builder plugin active, you will now have a new editing tab, Page Builder. Click on this tab.archive12.png

3. The Page Builder will open. Click on the +row button to add a row.archive11.png

4. In the Add New Row popup window, create a new row with a row with 1 column. Click the Insert button to create the row.

5. Now click the + Add widget button to add a widget. archive14.png

6. You will see a list of available widgets. Click on the Recent Posts Extended widget to add it.archive15.png

8. Hover over the widget box and click on the Edit link to edit the widget options.

9.Configure the widget settings as seen below. The Featured Image size can be flexible by make sure it is at least 500px wide.

The widget options will be displayed in a longer layout but all options are same as screenshot.

10. Click the Done button to set your widget options.

Step 2: Add See All Button

This step is optional.

1. In the page editor screen for your Archive Page, in Page Builder mode, click on the + Add widget button.

2. From the list, choose the Shortcodes Ultimate widget by clicking on it. It will be added to your row.archive17.png

3. Hover over the Shortcodes Ultimate widget and click on the Edit link to edit the widget settings.

4. Click the Insert Shortcode button.

5. From the list of shortcodes, choose the Button code by clicking on it.

6. Add your button Link, choose whether to open in a new tab or current tab. Set your button background color, text color and size. Explore the other setting options like adding an icon. Finally, add your Content which is the button text wording.

7. Click the Done button to save your widget settings.

To Add More Sections, repeat steps 1 & 2. We recommend you add a new row for each section.

Publish or update your page when done.

You can create multiple pages using this process. Just start a new page.
