Home Page Setup | Prima Donna

Follow

This article covers how to set up the widgetized areas of the custom Home Page templates that come with the Prima Donna WordPress theme.

* Make sure you have created a static home page first: see this article.

** If you are new to using widgets, see this Intro to Widgets video.

*** For information on the different Genesis and Theme widgets, see these articles: Genesis Widget Setup & Theme Widgets.

Step 1: Choose Home Page Template

This theme comes with 2 widgetized Home Page Template options:

1. Home Page

Can be used with the Featured Post Slider & Promo Box settings plus 6 widget areas specific to the Home Page.

Widget areas include: Home Page 1, Home Page 2, Home Page 3, Home Page 4, Home Page 5, Home Page 6

Home Page 1 is a fullwidth widget area. 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 are boxed.

Home Page 2 appears above the Promo Boxes. 3, 4, 5 & 6 are below the Promo Boxes.

All widget areas are Flexible widget areas. This means:

  • If you add 1 widget, it will be full width.
  • If you add 2 widgets, they will both be full width (this allows the 1st widget to act as a section title).
  • If you add 3 widgets, the 1st will be full width (section title). The 2nd and 3rd widgets will create 2 equal columns.
  • If you add 4 widgets, the 1st will be full width (section title). The 2nd, 3rd and 4th widgets will create 3 equal columns.
  • If you add 5 widgets, the 1st will be full width (section title). The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th widgets will create 4 equal columns.

2. Home Page Alt

Used to create the 2/3 slider (or widget) + 1/3 widget layout.

Home Page 1 - Creates the left, 2/3 widget area

Home Page 2  - Creates the right, 1/3 widget area

* Note: The Boxed style Featured Post slider enabled in the Customizer can also be used in the 2/3 widget area. i.e. You can choose the included slider or use a slider widget like Smart Slider 3 or Genesis Responsive slider.

Home Page 3, 4, 5 & 6 are Flexible widget areas and boxed.
