Theme Widgets | Prima Donna

This tutorial will walk you through the setup of the custom theme widgets for the Prima Donna theme.

NOTE: Some of these widgets require the installation and activation of a plugin. Make sure you have installed and activated the Recommended Plugins.

 

Included Widgets

Prima Donna includes or has special styles for the following widgets:

  • AccessPress Social Icons - install your own custom social icons
  • Instagram - display your Instagram feed in the sidebar or footer
  • Lightweight Social Icons - simple, customizable social icons for many networks that are simple to customize.
  • Prima Donna: Ad widget - a simple widget to insert code based ads
  • Prima Donna: Facebook Like Box - an easy to setup Facebook page widget
  • Prima Donna: Post List - A recent posts widget with a large image
  • Prima Donna: Promo Box - a promo box widget to create image links in your sidebar
  • Prima Donna: Sidebar Posts Carousel - a simple carousel slider to feature your recent posts
  • Prima Donna: Recent Posts - another recent posts widget with smaller images for a compact style
  • Genesis eNews Extended - add newsletter signup forms for services like MailChimp and more

 

For the purpose of these directions, we are going to assume you know how to navigate to the Appearance > Widgets page and drag-and-drop a widget into a widget area (Widgets in WordPress).

 

AccessPress Social Icons (Recommended Plugin)

Use this widget to upload and install custom social media icons.

Can be used in the Nav Social Menu (top bar), sidebar and footer widget areas.

1. Before you can use the widget, you need to upload your custom widgets. Go to AccessPress Social Icons > Add New Set

2. Under Name of Set, give your new set of icons a name like "Top Bar".

3. Under Chose Icon Set Type you can Choose from available themes or Choose icon individually. To upload your own icons, pick Choose icon individually

4. If you have lots of icons you may want to choose to show them in more than one row under theNumber of Rows setting.

5. Choose your icon spacing under Margin Between Each Icon

6. Under Tooltip you can show or hide the hover tooltip for each icon. You can also customize the colors for the tooltip.

7. Additional customization options are available under Icons Hover Animation and Opacity on Non Hover.

8. Under the Icon Lists section you will upload your custom icons.

9. Under Icon Title enter the name for your new icon, i.e. Facebook

10. Under Icon image you can choose from Pre available icons or click the Upload icon button to upload your own custom icon.

11. Under Icon width and icon height enter the size of your icon in pixels.

12. You can add a border style to your icon under Border style

13. Under Icon Link enter your full social media network URL (page address or profile address

14. To add an icon to your list, click the Add Icon to List.

15. Repeat process until all icons are on your list.

16. Click the Save icon set button to save your icon set.

17. Go to Appearance > Widgets

18. Drag-and-drop the AccessPress Social Icons widget into a sidebar area.

19. Give your widget a title if desired.

20. Under Icon set, choose the icon set you just created. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Instagram (Recommended Plugin)

1. Drag-and-drop the Instagram widget into a sidebar area.

2. Enter a widget title if desired

3. Under Username enter your Instagram user name (NOT your full URL)

4. Select the number of images to show, image size, whether to open links in same or new window and enter text for your profile link.

5. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Lightweight Social Icons (Recommended Plugin)

 

1. Drag-and-drop the Lightweight social icons widget into a widget area.

2. Give your widget a title if desired.

3. Set your Icon size in pixels

3. Border radius gives your icons a rounded or circular background effect if you chose to use a background color. A radius of 30-50px will give a circular effect.

4. Set your Background Color, Text (icon) Color, Background Hover Color, and Text (icon) Hover Color. You can enter a hex color # or choose from the color picker.

5. Choose whether you want to Open links in new window/tab or Show tooltips

6. Now you will start adding links. Under the left-hand dropdown, choose the icon to display (Facebook, Snapchat, etc.). In the right hand drop down, enter your full network URL.

7. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Prima Donna: Ad Widget

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Ad widget into a sidebar area.

2. Give your widget a title if desired.

3. Paste your ad code into the Ad Code area.

4. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Prima Donna: Facebook Like Box

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Facebook Like Box widget into a sidebar area.

2. Give your widget a title if desired.

3. In the Facebook Page URL field, enter the full URL/web address for your Facebook page.

* Note, for the widget to work, your Facebook account must be a page, not a personal profile. Learn How to Convert your Profile to a Page

4. If you want to show faces of your page friends, tick the Show Faces box.

5. To show a stream of your recent activity, tick the Show Stream box.

6. To show your cover image, tick the Show Page Cover Image box.

7. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Prima Donna: Post List

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Post List widget into a sidebar area.

2. Give your widget a title if so desired.

3. Under Select Categories, decide if you want to show All Categories or a specific category in the widget.

4. You can choose to show Recent Posts or Popular Posts under the Post Order.

5. Last, set the Number of posts to display.

6. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Prima Donna: Promo Box

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Promo Box widget into a sidebar area.

2. Give the widget a title if so desired.

3. Under the title, copy and paste the URL for the image you want to use for your image background on the promo box. See this article if you want to know how to find the URL for images in your Media Library.

4. Enter your Promo text which will display in an overlay on your Promo Box.

5. Enter your Promo Link, the link for the page you want the Promo Box to link to.

6. Enter Promo Box Height and Promo Box Margin Bottom.

7. If you want to Open link in a new tab tick the box next to this option.

8. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

* You can add and stack several of these widgets to create a nice image menu in the sidebar.

 

Prima Donna: Sidebar Posts Carousel

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Sidebar Posts Carousel into a sidebar area.

2. Give your widget a title if desired.

3. Select whether you want to show posts from All Categories or from a single category.

4. Select your Post Order and Number of posts to display.

5. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Prima Donna: Recent Posts

1. Drag-and-drop the Prima Donna: Recent Posts widget into a sidebar area.

2. Give the widget a title if so desired.

3. Under Filter by Category choose posts from All Categories or a specific category.

4. Select the Number of posts to show

5. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Genesis - eNews Extended (Recommended Plugin)

1. Drag-and-drop the Genesis - eNews Extended widget into a sidebar area.

2. If so desired, give your widget a title.

3. You can set text to show before or after the form fields.

4. If you use Google/Feedburner for your RSS feed, enter your ID in the Google/Feedburner ID box.

5. For other newsletter services, you will need to find your Form Action URL. This section of the widget contains the fields necessary to connect your form to the subscription service you wish to use. You can refer to the configuration instructions for details about which of these fields need to be completed for the service you’re using.

6. The bottom section of the widget allows you to change the text you that displays in the form fields, as well as changing the label of the form submit button. These labels are what your site visitors will see when they view the actual subscription form.

7. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.
