Edit Excerpt Length in Home Page | Natasha

The Natasha template comes with an Auto Read More function which, on the Home Page and Archive Pages, displays a short post excerpt and Read More button under the post image and title.

It is not possible to remove the automatic read more function but it is possible to make the post excerpt length longer. Follow the steps below:

Edit Post Excerpt Length

  1. Login to your Blogger Dashboard
  2. Navigate to the Dashboard > Template page
  3. Click on the gray Edit HTML button to open the template code window
  4. Click anywhere in the code window and then press the [Control + F] keys. Or [Command + F] on Mac. A small search box will open in the upper right corner of the code window.
  5. Enter the following search term in the search box and then press [Enter]: var summary_noimg = 420;
  6. After you press [Enter], you will be taken to this section of code:
  7. There are 2 lines of code in this section that affect the length of the post excerpt.
  8. To edit the excerpt length for posts with no image, edit this line: var summary_noimg = 420;
    1. Edit the 420 to change the length of the excerpt. This is the number of characters (letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation) in the excerpt.
  9. To edit the excerpt length for posts with images, edit this line: summaryi = 280;
    1. Edit the 280 to change the length of the excerpt. This is the number of characters (letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation) in the excerpt.
  10. Click the orange Save template button at the top to save your changes.
