Sidebar Custom Widgets | Marissa

This theme comes with a number of custom widgets along with styles for certain default Blogger widgets.

This tutorial covers setup of the following widgets:

  • About Me - Profile Widget
  • Recent Posts
  • Labels
  • Follow by Email
  • Popular Posts
  • Featured Post

 

About Me - Profile Widget

 

  1. When you install the template, the Profile widget will automatically be installed.
  2. On the Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  3. In the SIDEBAR1 section, locate the Marissa Image Gadget.
  4. Click on the Edit link to open the settings box.
  5. Give your widget a Title - This will be the name that appears under the image.
  6. Add a Caption - this is the "about you" text under the image.
  7. Add a Link - this will be the page visitors will go to when they click on your image.
  8. Click on the Browse button to upload an image from your computer. Or you can use an image from a URL.
  9. When done, click the Save button to save your settings.

 

Edit the Signature Image

Use this step to edit the "Marissa" script signature at the bottom of the profile widget.

  1. Go to Theme page.
  2. Click on the Edit HTML button.
  3. Click anywhere in the code window. Press the [Control + F] or [Command + F] keys to open the search box in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Search for: signature
  5. You will find a piece of code that looks like this:  <img alt='signature' class='signing' src='https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9yqBB8gbx0/WB9hxTbDPiI/AAAAAAAAAG0/P6g3J2ea2XIg8fneLP3MnomshY7HzEyKACLcB/s1600/signature.png'/>
  6. Replace the red text (image source URL) with the link for your own signature image.
  7. To remove the signature, just deleted the entire piece of code shown above.
  8. Click the Save theme button to save changes.

 

Recent Posts

  1. The recent posts widget will be installed when you install the template.
  2. On the Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  3. In the SIDEBAR1 section, find the Recent Posts widget.
  4. Click the Edit link to open the widget settings box.
  5. There are 3 options for displaying posts: recent posts, random posts or by Label. Enter the code for your option as follows:
    #/recent posts
    ex : 5/recent posts
    or
    #/random posts
    ex : 3/random posts
    or
    label
    ex : Fashion
  6. Example, to show 4 Random posts you would enter: 4/random posts
  7. Click the Save button to save your widget settings.

 

Labels (Categories) Gadget

  1. On the Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  2. In the SIDEBAR1 section, find the Tags widget.
  3. Click the Edit link to open the widget.
  4. Give your widget a Title
  5. Under the Show option you can choose to show All Labels or Selected Labels.
  6. When you click the "Selected Labels" option. You can then click the Edit link to choose which labels to display.
  7. Under Sorting choose whether to show your labels in Alphabetically order or by Frequency.
  8. Under Display, choose whether to show as a List or Cloud. This template has styles for both options.
  9. You can also choose to "Show number of posts per label". This works best with the List style.
  10. Click the Save button when you're done.

 

Follow by Email

  1. When you install the template the "Follow by Email" widget will automatically be added.
  2. On the Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  3. In the SIDEBAR1 section locate the Follow by Email widget.
  4. Click the Edit link to open the widget settings.
  5. Give your widget a Title.
  6. Blogger will automatically assign your blog a Feedburner URL.
  7. Click the Save button to activate your widget.

 

You can edit the text under the widget title:

  1. On the Dashboard, go to the Template page.
  2. Click the Edit HTML button.
  3. Click anywhere in the code box. Press the [Control + F] or [Command + F] keys to open the search box in the upper right corner.
  4. Search for: Subscribe
  5. You will find the following code:content: "Subscribe using your email to our Newsletter for our latest stories and updates!";
  6. Edit the content BETWEEN the quotation marks, but leave the quotes intact.
  7. Click the Save template button to save changes.

 

Popular Posts

  1. The Popular Posts widget is automatically installed when you upload the template.
  2. On the Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  3. In the SIDEBAR-1 section, find the Popular Posts widget.
  4. Click on the Edit link to open the widget settings.
  5. Give your widget a Title.
  6. You can choose to show posts based on Most viewed All time, Last year, Last 30 days and Last 7 days.
  7. Under Show choose whether to display image thumbnail and snippet and how many posts to display.
  8. Click the Save button to save your settings.

 

Featured Post

  1. The Featured Post widget will be automatically installed when you upload the template.
  2. On the Blogger Dashboard, go to the Layout page.
  3. In the SIDEBAR-1 section find the Featured Post widget.
  4. Click on the Edit link to open the widget.
  5. Give your widget a Title.
  6. Under Post Snipped choose whether to show or hide post title, post snippet and/or post image.
  7. Under Featured Post you can choose to show your Most Recent Post or choose a post from all your other posts.
  8. At the bottom of the widget you can view a Preview of the widget.
  9. Click the Save button to save your settings.
